Sue Shaffer: Dedicated Service

The Roseburg News-Review---March 2, 2008

Sue Shaffer has dedicated her life to her family and to serving her tribe, her community and her nation.

One of her greatest achievements has been guiding the Cow Creek Band to being re-established as a federally recognized tribe; successfully suing the federal government for a land claims settlement; negotiating intensely with the BIA to keep the financial settlement as a tribal investment resource; effectively establishing the first tribal business—a bingo hall in Canyonville; wisely re-investing the profits to expand the business; diversifying into seventeen tribal businesses; achieving tribal business success employing almost 1400 Douglas County residents over $40 million per year and being the largest creator of new jobs in Douglas County.

Sue Shaffer is a woman of service and of visionary leadership.
